January Birthstone.... Garnet!!!!

Hello my friends!!!

January is my month...I have my birthday in a few days, so I am glad that because of this post I have discovered that Garnet is my birthstone and not amethyst as I used to know.

We usually think that Garnet is this deep red like a wine gemstone, but as you may discover below, there are many amazing colors for this natural stone. However, I love this red wine shade...that's why my findings are with the specific color.

Garnet is derived from the Latin word "granum" meaning "grain". This refers to the typically rounded shape of Garnet and also reminiscent of the seeds of the pomegranate.

Although the color red is occurs most frequently, there are also garnets showing different shades of green, pale to bright yellow, fiery orange and fine earth- and umbra-shades. Blue is the only color that is not available in Garnet. Color change garnets are mostly pyrope and spessartite in composition.

Garnets have been widely known for thousands of years. Many courageous discoverers and travelers wore Garnets for protection, as they were considered popular talismans and protective stones, because it was believed in those days that Garnets illuminate the night and prevent their wearer from any sort of evil.

The healing powers of gems remain a controversial issue, but are mentioned for centuries by healers, shamans and medicine men. Garnet is said to be of help for arthritis, pancreas, varicose veins and problems with testicles, toenails, thyroid and spleen.

The Garnet is a stone of purity and truth as well as a symbol of love and compassion and brings constancy to friendships. Garnets are also known for stimulating success in business.

     Happy January!!!
